Using An SAD Lamp For Mild Suffers
For most people their SAD is relatively mild. It's a sort of creeping depression that makes you feel joyless and sluggish. You find yourself having to drag yourself out of bed and then spend the day feeling fed up and tired. Then you start nibbling on food just to try and cheer yourself up, but instead just start piling on the pounds.
When the sun comes out nice and bright you can't help but long for those summer days and that sunshine. Well by using an SAD lamp you can mimic the sun and feel yourself return to normality.
Although there are SAD light boxes out there and they are very effective you may not want something so obvious in your home. Luckily there are SAD lamps available in a wide range of styles that will fit right into your house. Some of them may not have the intensity of a light box that allows you to get your daily sunlight dose in one hour, but by using them like normal lighting you'll can still make up for the lack of winter sunlight.
SAD desk lamps are very popular as while you sit there working you are absorbing the benefits from your SAD lamp. Don't forget that you can have them on during daylight hours as well as the amount of sunlight coming through the window on a winter's day is considerably less than on a summer's day. Because SAD lamps use low energy bulbs they don't cost much to run.
One big advantage of using an SAD lamp is that because the light is broad spectrum like that of the sun the light produced is much clearer and brighter than the light from normal household bulbs. You'll appreciate the difference if you use an SAD lamp while you work. The text on the paper will be much clearer and colours more natural. You'll not only be getting a good dose of light you'll also be reducing eyestrain. No wonder that some craft lamps use the full spectrum bulbs.
Along with desk lamps, craft lamps there are also floor lamps that are ideal for sitting under to watch TV or read. Rather than have them behind you, you should place them to the side or, even better, in front of you for maximum benefits. Now coming on to the market are more powerful lamps that match the light boxes in output but are designed to look like stylish lamps. They are very attractive but are also a bit on the pricey side.
One thing to remember that the further away from the SAD lamp you are the less effective they become. So try and site you lamp as near as is comfortable. Unlike the old fashion type of bulb these don't get hot so you can place them as close as is practical.
